Welcome to Second Season Farm.
My wife Jenna and I started working on Second Season Farm Newcastle in late 2016. We began by focusing our vision, “designing” the farm, and planting thousands of trees and shrubs. We started soil building with cover crops, experimented and made mistakes, and set up some infrastructure.
We are pursuing perennial based agriculture and optimizing what’s possible on small farms that embrace the latest scale appropriate technology. During the summer and fall, we produce a range of mixed annual vegetables, and aspire to push the season further.
Our many vegetables sell primarily at the Clarington Farmers’ Market on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Newcastle Arena parking lot from late May through October. This year the Bowmanville REKO Network will bring many farms right to the Garnet Rickard Complex on Thursday evenings from 5:45 to 7 p.m. Our online store will be stocked soon as well.
We grow everything we sell, on our farm just east of the “hole in the wall” on Highway 2 in Newcastle. I want to do more business around town, so please let me know if you would like to be contacted with a fresh-list, and days I am putting together orders.
