About Us

Welcome to Second Season Farm.

Second Season Farm began late 2016, just east of the “hole in the wall” on Highway 2 in Newcastle. We focused on our vision, “designing” the farm, and planting thousands of trees and shrubs. We started soil building with cover crops, experimented, made mistakes, and set up some infrastructure.

Our farm pursues perennial-based agriculture and optimizing what’s possible on small farms that embrace scale appropriate technology. During the summer and fall, we produce a range of mixed annual vegetables, and aspire to push the season further.

Our vegetables sell at the Clarington Farmers’ Market on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m, at the Diane Hamre Centre in Newcastle, May through October.

On Thursdays you can find us at the Bowmanville REKO Network, at the Garnet Rickard Complex. Evenings from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m.

New for 2023 – you can find us at two new area farmers’ markets; the Bowmanville Farmers’ Market on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex (parking lot) and at the Orono Farmers’ Market on Fridays from 1 to 6 p.m., at the north end of the Orono Fairgrounds.

We grow everything on our farm by following organic practices as a minimum standard. Our woodlot and orchard crops are integral to the health of our farm, and are incorporated into our annual vegetable production.
